NNI

Introduction

NNI - National Newspapers of Ireland and NNI Local and Regional Newspapers represents 18 national daily, Sunday and weekly newspapers and 36 local and regional newspapers with a combined weekly circulation of almost 6.5 m copies.

NNI is committed to promoting and portraying newspapers and their digital activities as the most comprehensive source of news and information, and as the most effective medium for advertising.

NNI believe that Irish national, local and regional newspapers are vital to the democracy of our state and the literacy of people in Ireland, particularly younger people.

The NNI represents the interests of its members on a wide range of industry issues. This representation includes:

  • working towards a fair and balanced legislative framework that brings Ireland into line with other EU jurisdictions (e.g. press regulation /ensuring fair competitive framework between broadcast and print media);
  • protecting the environment by adhering to best practices.
  • highlighting the unfairness of a system that taxes literacy (VAT) ensuring that copyright legislation protects the publisher’s investment.
  • putting in place mechanisms to ensure press standards and best industry practice.
  • Promoting newspapers as a creative and effective medium for advertising.
  • Promoting newspaper readership.
